Pinotage

Synonymous with South African red wine, Pinotage has become the country’s signature variety. The grape was created in 1925 from crossing Pinot Noir with Cinsault, which was known as Hermitage at the time. Pinotage is known for producing jammy, earth-driven wines laden with flavors of dark berries, bramble, and smoke. Although long looked down upon as a second class grape, high-quality expressions of Pinotage are quickly making their way onto the market.
