Although originally from North Africa, Verdejo is now most commonly associated with Spain’s Rueda region. Known for producing crisp and refreshing white wines, this acid-driven variety generally shows clean and soft flavors of citrus, stone fruit, melon, and crushed rocks. White wines labeled Rueda and Rueda Verdejo must contain at least 50% and 85% respectively of the grape. Verdejo grows best in dry, continental climates, especially when cultivated in poor soils.
