Aglianico is a black-skinned grape found in southern Italy, most notably in Basilicata and Campania. The variety is known for producing full-bodied wines laden with dark fruit flavors and high levels of tannin and acidity. Aglianico flourishes in dry, warm climates with ample sunshine and volcanic soils. When harvested too early, the wines can be austere, but in the right hands, Aglianco-based bottles are some of the most age worthy wines on the planet.
