Zweigelt

Zweigelt is an Austrian wine grape that is known for producing bright, light to medium-bodied red wines. The variety was created by Friedrich Zweigelt in 1922 and is a cross between St. Laurent and Blaufrankisch. Zweigelt is often compared to Pinot Noir, thanks to its light tannins, high acid, and earthy flavor profile. Although the grape is widely cultivated in Austria, plantings can also be found in Hungary, the Czech Republic, and Canada’s Niagara Peninsula and British Columbia regions.
