Cinsault

Cinsault is a red grape variety cultivated across many wine-growing regions, from France and California, to Lebanon and beyond. Although the variety was most commonly used to soften Grenache and Carignan in blended wines, varietal bottlings of Cinsault are on the rise. Characteristically, the grape is drought resistant, has thick skins, and thrives best in hot, dry climates. In 1925, Cinsault was famously crossed with Pinot Noir to create the South African variety Pinotage.
