Monastrell

Otherwise known as Mourvèdre or Mataro, Monastrell is a red grape variety commonly grown across France, Spain, and Australia. The grape produces dark-hued wines with heavy tannins and high alcohol, which is why it is generally used as a blending grape with other varieties, most commonly Grenache and Syrah. Monastrell is known for its flavors of dark fruit, game, and barnyard. The grape is also commonly used in rosé and fortified wine production.
