Trebbiano, also known as Ugni Blanc, is one of the most widely planted varieties in the world. The high-yielding grape is relatively bland but with high levels of natural acidity. In France it serves as the base of Cognac and Armagnac production. Recent Italian studies have shown that the grape is possibly related to Garganega, the backbone to the white wines of Soave.
