Michigan

Michigan’s viticulture history dates back to the mid-19th century. Today, the state is the fourth-largest grape-producing state in the United States, though most of the fruit is destined for juice. Michigan is home to five AVAs and more than 150 wineries, most of which make sweet wines from North American hybrids, such as Catawba, Niagra, and Concord. Outside of grapes, the state is a large pioneer in fruit wine production, particularly cherry wine.
