Central Valley (California)

Although not its own AVA, California’s Central Valley produces 70% of the state’s grapes. Vineyards within the Central Valley span for 400 miles and the overarching valley is broken down into two smaller ones: the Sacramento Valley and the San Joaquin Valley. The most notable appellation in the Central Valley is Lodi, which is best known for its Zinfandel. Other grapes planted here include Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, and Colombard.
