Alentejano is a regional designation for wines in Southern Portugal, an area also know for cork production. A great place to look for finding hidden gems, the region regularly has dry, hot weather leading to jammy, ripe, rich wines. Most wines under this regional designation are made from the black varieties Aragonez (Tempranillo), Castelao, Trincadeira and the white grape of choice is Antao Vaz as it is able to maintain good acidity despite the hot growing season. This region has also seen a rise in Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon production, giving a unique styles that speak of the area.
