St-Emilion Grand Cru

St-Emilion is one of France's most beautiful towns and a UNESCO heritage site. The vineyards that surround it make up the largest red wine appellation on Bordeaux's right bank, and a few hundred of these properties have earned the right to be classified as St-Emilion Grand Cru, adhering to more stringent control of yields and minimum barrel-ageing requirements. The Merlot grape dominates here. St-Emilion Grand Cru should not be confused with Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classé, a more lofty, expensive and endlessly rancourous classification.
